North from Big Baldy hike in Sequoia National Park

The trail first takes you through dense forests of incense-cedar, fir, and pine, but within a mile you start getting views to the south and west, in particular of Redwood Canyon, the largest grove of giant sequoia on earth. As you ascend, the views keep getting better, especially when the trail makes its way over open granite studded with Jeffrey pines. At the summit you're rewarded with 360 degree views that take in the Central Valley, Redwood Canyon, and the High Sierra far to the east.
